Great life design advice!
Thanks Javan. Katrina (PDC PRO Student)
You're most welcome
Thanks for laying this concept out so clearly. Easy to parse, very helpful!
Thanks Javan for posting this, it was difficult to logging to all the office hours, but this posts are great
Thanks for this web chat with Mark. It was really informative. I've wanted to buy this book for a while, and I'm glad to see a direct link. good luck with the course. blessings.
Hi, I'm new to all this. We raise goats. On our property we have trees that are intended for, among others, a supply of feed for goats. Is there any scenario where we can coppice/pollard the trees down to a size that will allow the goats to forage on them while at the same time allowing them (trees) to survive and regrow? Perhaps if we had some branches grow to a height out of their reach so they don't eat all the leaves everytime? Then we wait for the tree to recover before giving the goats access to them again. Thank you in advance!
Hi Javan, might it be possible to get a sketch design of the inner stove system?
I farm in California; my principal crop is olives. I have been experimenting with coppicing olives--cutting off the trees between waist-high and shoulder high. As olive trees age (20 years +) they go increasing into alternate bearing, with a heavy crop every second year and no fruit on the off years. My main motivation is to rejuvenate the trees to get away from alternate bearing, but also to keep the trees short for harvest. Wood from the initial cut goes to firewood, the second pruning yields a lot of straight, strong sticks. I coppice alternate trees in every fifth row( 10% of the total grove), which gives a ten year rotation. I'm only four years into this, so the effect on alternate bearing is not yet entirely clear, although I am getting two good years in a row. The vigor of the response was more that I was expecting--at 30 months after cutting the trees are already too tall again. I should try cutting them off at ground level, but I haven't had the courage to do that yet.
Thanks, folks, really appreciate your making these resources available over long distance.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights. Much appreciated.
My take-away at the very end: Become the world's laziest gardener ;)
Thank you for recording this! I was working and couldn't attend live.
1:30:21 Discussion of Dungeons and Dragons worldbuilding software being used for high-dollar design work - INCREDIBLE!!
How do you get the red lines around it?
"Really big" is more prone to failure than small and frequent. Likely starting higher in the landscape, and planting trees where the slope is too steep for conventional catchments will slow and spread water. Robust is always good. You need to ultimately slow water to prevent erosive forces. Brad lancaster had good diagrams in his latest editions on rainwater harvesting.
Nice content
Great information!
beautiful!

Javan, your dedication and clear explanations shine through. Thank you for making learning an engaging experience.
You're most welcome Channa! Thank you for your kind words.
this was very clever. thanks for the video.
What program are you using that has the layers?
I really like the illustration of sun shading simple and awesome explanation.
Great to hear. A sun shade analysis is a great way to assess the solar real estate of a small site. It becomes unviable when the site becomes larger.
Incredible session packed with so much helpful information thank you for so much amazing detail!
Ryan you're most welcome. Are you in the OSU PDC or just watching the office hours? What was useful from the session for you?
hi longmont !!
Hi Javen, I am wondering: What is a pragmatic way to actually measure the hight of elements like topography, terraces with slope, in my case? How precise should and can a Cross Section be?

Would you now plant trees or larger bushes on the edges of those pools?
Trees are especially good at preventing problematic erosion, though other plants as part of the dam structure itself is good.
You aren’t filming the system, but yourselves 🤦🏻♂️ very bad video
PDC Pro student here. Pretty helpful! Thank you very much!
You are most welcome.
Well done. Sometimes the Beehive State overlooks the faster, cheaper and easier model and goes for concrete. Brad Lancaster, Watershed Mgmt Group and Borderlands Restoration out of Baja AZ are great resources too. Good luck.
Brad Lancaster is fabulous. Got his books. His advice is seriously good.
The information is neverending here! thank you for making this available
You are most welcome! Glad you enjoyed the conversation.
Many thanks. 😁
Wow! This is great stuff and so well put together, I was almost moved to tears, honestly!! The animation of Yobarnie I watched at least 7 times, haha! Would you share how this animation was done / with which tools? I'd love t learn more about it! Thanks a lot, and do you have more documentaries? I'd love to watch them! 😀
Great Video! Thanks
I would love to hear even more explanation about how grazing impacts fire risk. This was great!
I really enjoyed your video, thank you from Fanny Bay.
Rad!
Fantastic! Thanks so much.
It looked like you had a "change background" under the Slide tab as well.
Great information. Thank you.
The spreadsheets and document seem very interesting. I'm in the PDC PRO this year. Would it be possible for me to access the document shown in the first half hour of the Q&A? Are they in the Assignment resources?
Hi Diego the tables as I mention in the video are from books listed in the show notes or are in other courses. Thanks for your comment.
I wish the content was more informative.
Most of the information about soil tests is in the OSU PDC PRO! See the links for details.
Can’t find this “ValeVillage” anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction?
Very helpful, into my 8th week at OSU permaculture design course
Glad to hear it!
